Charme Mitchell joins the research group as part of the CUNY Summer Undergraduate Research Program (C-SURP) sponsored by the Sloan Foundation. She just finished at CityTech and will be starting at CCNY in chemical engineering in the fall.

The project “A High-Efficiency Process for CO2 Conversion to Hydrocarbon Fuels” started. The PI on the project is Hui Xu, Giner, Inc. Prof. Biddinger serves as the subawardee on the projected. The project is a US Department of Energy Small Business Innovation Research (DOE-SBIR) grant. CCNY will receive $35,000 towards research. The project will run until March 13, 2017.

June 2016
The project “Development of an A.A.S. Degree Program in Chemical and BioEnergy Technology for Sustainability (CBETS) at Bronx Community College, City University of New York” started.  The PI on the project is Prof. Aaron Socha, Department of Chemistry, Bronx Community College and the co-PIs are Prof. Amanda Simson, Department of Chemical Engineering, University of New Haven, and Prof. Biddinger.

Professor Biddinger attended the 229th Electrochemical Society Meeting in San Diego, California. She gave the presentation “Electrocatalytic Upgrading of Furfural to Produce Biofuels and Fine Chemicals.”

Professor Biddinger attended the 251st American Chemical Society (ACS) National Meeting & Exposition in San Diego, California. She co-organized a 3-day symposia on CO2 utilization and presented “Importance of Substrate Metals in Cu Nanoparticle-Based Catalysts for CO2 Electroreduction.”

The project “Adsorbents for use in building-integrated plant-based dynamic filtration media for removing chemical warfare agents” supported by the US Army Edgewood Chemical and Biological Center (ECBC) through the Minority Serving Institutions Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Research and Development Consortium (MSRDC) started. Professor Biddinger is serving as the PI and Professor Ahu Aydogan Akseli, CCNY Architecture, is serving as the co-PI. The project award is $103,106 and runs until September 30, 2016.

Sujan presented “Electrochemical Recovery of Fission Platinoids in 1-Butyl,1-Methylpyrrolidinium Dicyanamide Ionic Liquid” and gave a poster presentation at the Meet the Faculty Candidate poster session. Alexandros presented "Importance of Substrate Metals in Cu-Based Catalysts for Electroreduction of CO2.” Sunyup presented "Sustainable Product Separation from a Silylamine-Type Switchable Electrolyte in Electrochemical Reactions," and also gave a poster presentation on furfural electroreduction.

A Hiden HPR-20 Residual Gas Analyzer (RGA) mass spectrometer was installed in the lab. This will be used to analyze product gases coming off of catalyst surfaces.
